چکیده

Organoselenium compounds have been known for a long time as versatile reagents in organic chemistry. In the last years there has been a considerable development of selenium-based methods for organic synthesis. Many of these methods are currrently been used as standard procedures to introduce new functional groups under mild conditions. From the several areas of interest in organoselenium chemistry, selenium stabilized carbocations has emerged as a useful class for interesting transformations and new methods for carbon-carbon bond formation. Aspects related to heterosubstituted carbenium ions, like their formation, structure and stability, has been very well studied and revised by Hevesi in the last years, and will not be the subject of this article. In the following chapter we will detail synthetic aspects of selenium stabilized carbocations as electrophiles.

Disubstituted Carbenium Ions as Reactive Intermediates in Organic Chemistry

Recent results in the chemistry of disubstituted carbenium ions (vinyl cations and phenyl cations) are described separately under three different sections: From kinetic and solvolytic data of several 1—cyclobutenyl nonaflates, the intermediacy of a non-classical vinyl cation, namely the 1-cyclobutenyl cation 2 is established. Cycloaddition reactions of solvolytically generated vinyl cations wit...

Kinetics of the Reactions of Electron Rich CC-Double Bonded Systems with Carbenlum Ions

In spite of the enormous importance, reactions of cationic electrophiles with silylated enol ethers have adopted in organic synthesis,* kinetic data on such reactions are rare.u Previously we have reported rate constants for the reactions of alkenes, allylelement compounds, and enol ethers toward chloro-, methyl-, and alkoxy-substituted benxhydryl cation& Because of the high nucleophilicity of ...

Modes of neighbouring group participation by the methyl selenyl substituent in β-methylselenylmethyl-substituted 1-phenylethyl carbenium ions.

Selenium substituents which are disposed β to an electron deficient centre, such as a carbocation p-orbital, or the π* orbital of an electron deficient p-system, interact in a stabilising way by a combination of C-Se hyperconjugation (σ(Se-C)-π* interaction), and a through-space homoconjugative n(Se)-π* interaction. The relative importance of these two modes of interaction is dependant on the e...

Direct coupling of carbenium ions with indoles and anilines for the synthesis of cationic π-conjugated dyes.

A C-C bond forming reaction occurs spontaneously between tris-(2,6-dimethoxyphenyl)carbenium ions and indoles/anilines. The carbocation acts both as an electrophile and an oxidant. Effective cationic π-conjugated dyes are formed resulting in a strong hyper- and bathochromism.

Correlations between carbene and carbenium stability: ab initio calculations on substituted phenylcarbenes, nonbenzenoid arylcarbenes, heteroatom-substituted carbenes, and the corresponding carbocations and hydrogenation products.

Calculations were completed at the G3MP2 level on a large group of carbon- and heteroatom-substituted carbenes (X-CH, singlets and triplets), carbenium ions (X-CH2(+)), and their hydrogen addition products (X-CH3). One series includes 11 meta- and 12 para-substituted phenylcarbenes, X = Ar. Gas-phase enthalpies of reaction were calculated for four processes: singlet-triplet enthalpy gaps of the...
